The Hyderabad Cricket Association is gearing up to host the historic one-off Test between India and Bangladesh from February 9 to 13 at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium at Uppal. Despite some serious doubts over the future of the match due to shortage of funds, the match will be played on the scheduled date as the problem seems to have relented.

“Funds are no more an issue as we are going ahead with the preparations in full swing though we are yet to get the grant normally given for hosting a Test match by the BCCI (about Rs. 60 lakh),” K. John Manoj, HCA Secretary was quoted as saying by the Hindu. The HCA official also informed the Hind that the ticket prices for the match were decided. While the lowest denomination is Rs. 100, the highest is Rs. 1000 and the tickets will be available on www.eventsnow.com.

Following BCCI’s directive to all State Cricket Associations, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has initiated on ensuring that there is a large attendance by school students during the course of the match. Around 5000 seats in the Eastern and the Western Stands has been kept for different schools throughout the city.

“We will be sending the circular in this regard to all the schools requesting them to inform in advance if they are keen to send their students (maximum of 500) per day so that necessary arrangements can be made,” John Manoj said. HCA is also preparing the Gymkhana Ground where Bangladesh will play India-A in a two-day warm-up match before the solitary Test. “Since there are plenty of practice wickets available and the playing area is of the first-class standard, we don’t see any issues as far as hosting the match is concerned,” the HCA secretary said.

“We are making makeshift arrangements to see that the players and the officials are in the comfort zone with the entire area cordoned off for security reasons with restricted entry,” John Manoj pointed out.

The India-Bangladesh tie might just be the toughest match for India on their long home season as Bangladesh boasts of some quality batsmen and spinners.
