4. Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders were hit by a major blow ahead of the season, they unexpectedly lost allrounder Andre Russell who so successfully opened the bowling and managed the pinch-hitting role for the team last season. Having already released their other new ball bowler Morne Morkel they had to now look out for two opening bowlers as well as allrounders. The KKR management willingly shelled out INR 5 crore for New Zealand pacer Trent Boult who is a magician with the new ball when there is swing on offer.
England allrounder Chris Woakes was their second best pick for INR 4.2 crore and the third was Nathan Coulter-Nile who earned a contract worth 3.5 crore. Beefing up the bowling department further they signed uncapped Bengal player Sayan Ghosh and in the allround department picked Himachal Pradesh’s Rishi Dhawan, West Indian Rovman Powell and uncapped Sanjay Yadav.
A steal deal for them was 28-year-old Jharkhand batsman Ishank Jaggi who was in red hot form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Zonal Trophy. KKR was the only team to bid for him at his base price of INR 10 lakh.
