In the same way as that of men’s cricket, women’s cricket has also taken a massive hit in the COVID-19 pandemic. However, things are starting to fall in place with the situation returning back to normalcy. Both international and domestic cricket have started to make their way. In the meantime, England cricket tried to interact with the fans, asking them to guess the name of players.

It was back in September 2020 when England last played international cricket in the home ODIs against the West Indies women’s team. It was a series that they won, showing their dominance at the highest level.

Meanwhile, England cricket’s tweet read, “It’s been a while since our Women were in ODI action! Can you name the missing players from the XI? 1. Beaumont 2. Wyatt 3. Sciver 4. Knight 5. 6. 7. Brunt 8. 9. 10. Shrubsole 11. Davies,”

One of the fans, thereafter, put up a scathing tweet, putting forth the low popularity of women’s cricket. The fan wrote, “Does anyone care about women’s cricket?”

England’s Alex Hartley responds

Seeing the tweet, England women’s cricketer Alex Hartley responded. The youngster showed a few pictures, including a match that had a record 86,174 attendance. She also posted a picture from the 2017 World Cup final between India and England.

Hartley’s picture of the record Australian attendance goes back to the final of the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup final between the hosts and Harmanpreet Kaur’s India. The match was played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Though the match was a one-sided affair with Australia winning by a massive margin, it wasn’t short of fandom by any means. It also became the most attended women’s cricket match in the history of the sport.

Hartley made her debut for England back in 2016 and has, thus far, played 28 ODIs and four T20Is. In those games, she has picked up 39 and three wickets respectively. She also has a couple of four-wicket hauls to her name.

Hartley is also a diehard fan of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). On quite a few instances, she used to drop tweets whenever Virat Kohli and Co took the field.
