Afghanistan made their Test debut against India and they swallowed a difficult pill as they succumbed to pressure and consequently conceded the game in just two days (lost by an innings and 262 runs). The Indian team became the first Asian side to bag a Test win in just two days time. This was Ajinkya Rahane’s second win in the second Test he captained team India.

After learning a lot from the defeat, Afghanistan skipper Asghar Stanikzai was surprised alongside his teammates to witness the things ending up in such a quick time. He also believes that the red ball game is a whole different one and is set to concentrate on their weaknesses as they have time on their side.

“First, thanks to BCCI and the Afghanistan Cricket Board to have given us this opportunity. We hadn’t played a Test match before this and we’ve learnt a lot. In the future when we play a match, we know now how to play against a full member nation like India. Yes, we were surprised by how quickly things ended because we were a good team. But Test cricket is a completely different ball game, we have a lot of time and we’ll work on our weaknesses,” Stankizai said.

The historic Test match started with the Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore reading out Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message for the visiting Afghanistan team. The Kabul-born Indian cricketer Salim Durani also marked his presence ahead of the start of the match. The most important part of the game was the Chinnaswamy crowd, they cheered both the teams during their highs and lows of the match.

Skipper Stanikzai cherished the support his team got from the fantastic crowd, “A huge thanks to the crowd as well, it felt like we were in Kabul,” he concluded.
