Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian fast bowler, has carved himself a reputation as an indispensable member of the Indian team. He forayed into international cricket back in January 2016 in a T20I against Australia and hasn’t looked back ever since. Last year, he made his debut in Tests against South Africa and didn’t take much of a time to taste success in the most traditional format of the sport.

He recently played the four-match series against Tim Paine’s Australia and he didn’t flatter to deceive by any stretch of the imagination. He ended the series as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 21 wickets at an average of 17 and an economy rate of 2.27. In the third Test at the renowned Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Bumrah picked up a six-wicket haul, his first in Test cricket.

The superlative show also fetched him as the Player of the Match award. His lethal Yorkers and his deceptive slower deliveries turned out to be a tough nut to crack for the hapless Aussie batsmen. Back in Australia, the 25-year-old from Ahmedabad went on to inspire youngsters to such an extent that one of them tried to imitate his bowling action and did it with near perfection.

He ended 2018 as the fourth highest wicket-taker with 48 wickets from nine matches. He is only one short of 50 Test wickets and would have to wait for a few months in order to accomplish the feat. In the meantime, a supporter on Twitter asked former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra about who’s the best bowler in the world to which the cricketer turned commentator named Bumrah.

The fan also called South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, who was the leading wicket-taker in Tests in 2018 with 52 wickets, an idiot and Chopra retaliated, saying that he won’t call him the same. He took to Twitter and wrote, “Rabada is a very fine bowler. I wouldn’t call him an idiot….never. But it’s about all three formats….and yes, Bumrah is the best in the world IMHO. Traaa,”
