Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra on Monday expressed sympathy for his former Australian counterpart Matthew Hayden who suffered a terrible injury on his forehead in an accident recently. The former Australian cricketer himself had earlier shared pictures of his injury which he sustained while losing balance during a surfing session in Stradbroke Island in Queensland.
The 46-year-old former cricketer had gone for the adventure sports with son Joshua during a family vacation and later said that he had “dodged a bullet” while sharing his ordeal on Instagram. He fractured his C6 while the C4 and C5 ligaments were torn. In another picture he posted on Sunday, Hayden said he is safe now and thanked his friends Ben and Sue Kelley for his fast diagnosis with MRI and CT Scans.
The man also did not lose his humour as he said in his second Instagram post: “Ok. Last attention seeking post I promise.” Hayden is known for his surfing skills but one bad day saw him getting toppled.
Aakash Chopra was shocked with Hayden’s photos
Chopra, who had played against Hayden in the 2003 series in Australia which was drawn 1-1, wished a speedy recovery for the latter in a tweet after expressing his shock over his injury.
Heard the terrible news and saw some very disturbing pictures of @HaydosTweets’s injury. Get well soon my friend….God speed.

Hayden was known to be one of the best openers Australia have produced. He was equally destructive in Tests and ODIs and especially in the limited-over format, his opening partnership with Adam Gilchrist was a terror for bowlers across the world.
In a career spanning between 1994 and 2008, Hayden played 103 Tests and 161 ODIs besides only nine T20Is (but even there, he left at a staggering strike rate of 143 plus), scoring over 15,000 international runs and slamming 40 hundreds.
Hayden had once overtaken Windies great Brian Lara as the highest scorer in Tests when he scored 380 against Zimbabwe eclipsing Lara’s 375. But the Caribbean batsman came back to regain his crown by hitting 400 not out against England the very next year.
