Australian opening batsman Aaron Finch was at his devastating best against Sussex yesterday, scoring a quick-fire 64-ball 114. The bulky giant batsman turned out for Surrey in the Natwest T20 blast and took the Sussex bowlers for a leather hunt. He whacked them out of the park at will and found the gaps with clarity. His maximums went to the crowds as the domestic party called for some thrilling action.

After electing to bat first, Surrey openers Jason Roy and Aaron Finch lifted their side to a staggering start. The opening duo stitched a phenomenal 134-run stand in 95 deliveries with both batsmen putting up their fifties. The highlight of their show, however, turned out to be the 18th over of their innings.

David Wiese was into the attack. After securing a double on the first delivery, the Aussie batsman slapped the second one over mid-wicket, into the crowd; a couple more went over long-off, one rollicking high over the end, finally ending the over with a chip over mid-off for a boundary making it 30 runs from six deliveries.  With massive hits, Finch equaled his own team’s record of seven sixes in a T20 match, which was previously held by Mark Ramprakash.

Few balls later, the opener registered the three-figure mark, staying unbeaten on 114. The target of 193 turned out to be too good for the opponents. Finch is a seasoned Australian player, who has played 82 ODI matches, scoring 2675 runs at an average of 34.74. He has registered 7 hundreds and 16 fifties in the process.

He carries an average of 34.74 along with a strike rate of 88.89.  In T20I’s the stroke-maker has scored 1082 runs from 31 games at an average of 38.64, along with a hundred and 7 fifties. He is famously known for the thundering 135 against England at MCG during the 2015 World Cup where Australia eventually went on to lift the trophy.
