The Proteas side put up some dismal performances in the first two ODIs. The hosts dealt further blow with their veteran batsman AB de Villiers injuring himself during the Test series. Further, their skipper Faf du Plessis also injured his finger during the 1st ODI and will miss entire India series. South Africa is already 2-0 down in the series and will have to put up a fight in the remainder of the series to keep their chances alive.

However, after a string of bad news, the Proteas finally have something to cheer for. AB de Villiers, who is currently nursing a finger injury is expected to be back in the fourth ODI against India. Earlier, he injured his right index finger while trying to go for a catch to dismiss Virat Kohli in the third Test at Johannesburg.

AB de Villiers played golf with an injured finger

Despite suffering from an injury, the 33-year-old was spotted playing golf at the Pretoria Country Club earlier this week. This, however, did not go well with the CSA officials as they were extremely disappointed. But the head of the CSA medical committee Dr. Shuaib Manjra believes that it is a positive sign for South Africa. He added that they are doing their best to get him fit for the fourth ODI on February 10.

“Golf is very different to cricket and his injury is healing. If he could play 18 rounds of golf, without complaining of pain, it’s a positive sign for us,” he told Sportstar.

“We expect him to return in probably two weeks time, but we are also going to take it as it comes. A decision will be made closer to the fourth ODI. He clearly won’t be ready for the ODI in Cape Town on Wednesday, but we will try to get him ready for the pink ODI,” Dr. Manjra concluded.”

Coincidentally, the Proteas don the pink jersey in this ODI and they also never lost a pink ODI. Moreover, de Villiers has a special liking for the Pink ODIs and he also smashed the 31-ball century in a pink ODI.
