Former South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman and captain, AB de Villiers has given inputs to the South Africa team management, for the World Cup 2019. He has suggested that the management select only the in-form batsmen for the quadrennial event which is set to take place in England and Wales seven months from now.

All the teams are busy selecting the best 11 for the multinational event. While India seems to have found its best combinations, apart from the no. 4 batting position muddle, teams like Pakistan and Sri Lanka are completely clueless about who will fly to England next year. As for South Africa, de Villiers believes that their bowling department can be the team’s trump card. In the batting order, the top six is still largely undecided.

I’m pretty positive,” De Villiers was quoted as saying in Daily Hunt. “They’re still chopping and changing in the batting department, but you look around at the guys who are there, and they are all match-winners. The bowling unit seems to be in order to do really special things at the World Cup next year,” he added.

He also emphasized the importance of carrying a good form, while also maintaining that experience is as important.

“I’d love to have experienced guys there, but they must be in form. I won’t say we got it wrong in the past, but I’d like to take in-form players to the World Cup who are confident with their games and will win you matches,” he said.

Backing for Reeza Hendricks

The batsman, however, has backed Reeza Hendricks to take the No. 3 spot in the batting lineup. “He’s got good experience at domestic level, and he needs more experience at the highest level. When I’ve watched him play, he looks like he’s got time – he looks at home, so have a run with him,” he added.

De Villiers will continue playing T20I franchise cricket across the world, and very recently, he signed a deal with South Africa’s new T20 extravaganza – Mzansi Super League.
