AB de Villiers has carved a reputation for being one of most versatile batsmen in world cricket. His prowess to manoeuvre the leather across the entire circumference of the ground has earned him the tag of Mr. 360º. Moreover, the South African batsman can clear the ropes with sheer disdain. When de Villiers whacks the ball, it stays hit.

Rahul Tewatia, the leggie from Delhi Daredevils, faced the wrath of the belligerent Proteas batsman in the game last night. De Villiers has the ability to smack the best of deliveries and in this scenario, the tweaker dished out a juicy half-tracker, which not only sailed over the ropes on the leg-side but almost cleared the roof. The batsman had ample time and he rocked on to the back-foot and dismissed the ball out of his presence.

The gigantic strike by AB de Villiers

The ball hit the edge of the roof of the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore and came down on the field thereafter. Also, it was the longest six (106 meters) of the tournament thus far, which surpassed the previous best of 105 meters by Andre Russell. Prior to that stroke, de Villiers had already found the boundaries frequently to activate the panic button in the opposition camp.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore required 101 runs to win off 64 balls and the required rate was 9.46 rpo. De Villiers didn’t look back thereafter and played a stupendous hand, which took the sting out of the bowlers. He stayed there until the very end and took the team over the line, AB eventually scored 90 runs off 39 balls, which included ten boundaries and five sixes.

Following Virat Kohli’s dismissal, the onus was on the destructive de Villiers to guide the team him and he did just that with a couple of overs to spare. Subsequently, RCB moved up to the fifth position in the league table.
