Trent Boult's catch of the season stuns Virat Kohli

Everyone talking about Trent Boult’s catch to dismiss Virat Kohli faces the question ‘how do you describe a freakish catch like that?’. It was never supposed to be out. The bowler produced a poor delivery, the batsman played a really good shot that deserved the runs but against the run of play a certain Boult decided to change the destiny of that ball.

Harshal Patel making his debut for the Delhi Daredevils wouldn’t have been proud of that over having conceded 10 runs in the first five balls. However, considering the fact that he was bowling to Kohli and AB de Villiers it wasn’t bad either. The last ball was a real loosner. Full toss, on the pads, knee high and was there to be put away. Kohli just did that and set the ball flying for a likely six with a flick.

As the ball travelled from his bat and was looking to go there he was, standing at deep square leg with his eyes set on the white sphere. Boult kept his eyes on the ball, processed everything in a split second and went for the kill. He was a few steps inside from the ropes, he took a leap outstretched his right hand up that is his wrong hand. Still managed to get a better part of his fingers behind the ball. He pulled it into his palm and went down. The momentum of his dive and that from the ball took him with it towards the ropes.

Boult now had to make sure he didn’t touch the boundary and it was a matter of inches. His head went all the way beyond the ropes but he had pulled his hands really close to his chest and towards his stomach. They were well within when his body finally stopped. He didn’t touch the fense in any way and it was a stunning catch. He got back on his feet and was shocked himself. However, he was sure it was clean and thus claimed the catch.

The umpires went with him and though they went upstairs to confirm the soft signal was out. Replays confirmed Boult’s brilliance and everyone including Kohli and all of Boult’s teammates couldn’t believe what they had just witnessed. Everyone present at the M Chinnaswamy was shocked as Kohli walked back to the pavilion.
