On the 23rd of May 2018, AB de Villiers who was considered to be one of the greatest to have played the game, bid adieu to international cricket. The news came as a shocker to the cricketing fraternity as de Villiers was in good touch and looked like he could go on to demolish bowlers for few more years. However, de Villiers said that he had run out of gas and his time had come to make way for the younger generation to take over.

There were speculations that de Villiers would make a comeback to the international stage and be a part of the Proteas setup until the World Cup in 2019. However, he has rubbished such rumours and has no plans of playing for South Africa again. “No, there is no comeback. I made the mistake of saying ‘never say never’, which is a philosophy that I have always followed in my life.

I was actually trying to say that I am focusing on the now, but it came out horribly wrong and the next minute there were headlines around the world. It will be very selfish and arrogant of me to throw statements around that I want to play at the World Cup. I am happy where I am and focusing on the now and I will never say ‘never say never’ again,” de Villiers was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Back in action soon

However, Mr.360 will be in action at the Mzansi Super League for the Tshwane Spartans. He will be playing alongside England’s limited overs captain Eoin Morgan. “I am very happy because he [Morgan] is a great leader and he has been in fantastic form. He is a match-winner and I think we got lucky with him. I don’t know how he ended up in our team because I thought he was going to be picked up earlier. I am very happy to have him in our team.” de Villiers added.

The 2018 edition of the Mzansi Super league will begin on November 16. The tournament will be a six-team affair and a total of 32 matches will be played over a span of one month.
