Bangladesh left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak has revealed that he is desperate to make a comeback into the international scene. Razzak, who last played for Bangladesh in 2014, has been in fine bowling form in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League picking two five-wicket hauls in the last three List A games.

Razzak was an asset in limited overs cricket

The 35-year old has represented in only 12 Tests for Bangladesh but was a regular in the ODI setup until a loss in form sidelined him for the team. Razzak’s style of bowling was different from the orthodox as he believed in tying down the batsman. He didn’t give the ball too much air and persisted by bowling wicket to wicket and containing the runs.

“Only thing that can I do from my position is try. I can’t control the other things. But I will try my level best to make a comeback again,” he said.

The left-arm spinner has won 153 ODI caps for his country picking 207 wickets at 29.29. Razzak’s economy rate of 4.56 was exceptional considering the fact that he was regularly used during the fielding restrictions by captains. The Khulna-born bowler also represented in 34 T20s for Bangladesh and picked up 44 wickets at an economy rate of 6.88.

Razzak expressed his disappointment on not being part of the national side for the last three years. “Every cricketer wants to play for national team. I also feel bad not being able to be a part of the Bangladesh national team. It all depends on team management who would they choose for the national team. Obviously, they make decisions wisely. They know which cricketer is perfect for which particular format,” said the left-arm spinner.

First to 200 ODI sticks for Bangladesh

Razzak was the first bowler from Bangladesh to capture 200 ODI wickets and was the highest wicket taker for them until Mashrafe Mortaza and Shakib Al Hasan overtook him. He still holds the record for picking the most number of five-wicket hauls in ODI cricket. He has 4 of them and only 10 more cricketers have managed more than Razzak in the history of ODI cricket.

With Bangladesh concentrating more on youth, it will be tough for Razzak to win his position back in the national side. But with wickets behind him, the left-arm spinner has made a case for himself if a position for a spinner gets vacant in the near future.
