IPL 2021: Abhishek Bachchan picks his favorite Mumbai Indians' player

Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan is a big fan of franchise Mumbai Indians and has been religiously following the team since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. MI is the most successful franchise in the history of the T20 Championship having won the title as many as five times in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.

The franchise will be hoping to clinch their third IPL title, on a trot, by outplaying all the other teams in the 14th edition of the T20 Extravaganza. As the Mumbai-based franchise is gearing up for their second clash in IPL 2021 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the junior Bachchan recently made an appearance on Star Sports’ show Cricket Live.

In the show, Abhishek fondly spoke about his love for the Indian Premier League and Mumbai Indians since 2008. He also recalled the memories of watching the MI games along with his family over the years. During the course of the interaction, Bachchan also faced a dilemma as he was asked to pick his favorite Mumbai Indians players.

Speaking about his favorite player, Abhishek firstly made a notable mention to his dear friend and former MI player Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan was associated with the team from 2008 to 2017. However, after getting released from MI, he was picked by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the 2018 auction. In the 2021 edition, the veteran spinner is plying his trade for two-time champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Abhishek Bachchan gives a diplomatic answer

Further, Abhishek reckoned that Kieron Pollard has been the backbone of MI and is his favorite player. However, the actor gave a diplomatic touch to the situation saying that it is impossible for any MI fan to chose anybody else other than Rohit Sharma as their favourite.

“Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh) is a friend of mine and when he was playing with us, he was absolutely immense. Polly (Pollard), of course, has been a pillar of strength and the backbone of the team for so long. He’s my favorite! I think it will be wrong for any MI fan to choose anybody other than our captain fantastic, Rohit Sharma,” Abhishek said on Star Sports.
