If you were the batsman in the place of Tom Banton, you would have also reacted in the same manner. After facing spinner Kevin Koththigoda’s first ball in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, Banton literally shook his head in disbelief and even gave an extremely puzzled look.

And, Banton is surely justified in doing so. Koththigoda has one of the weirdest actions that can be seen in the cricketing world today. The right arm leg spinner has a quick run-up, does not use his non-bowling hand much, and releases the ball extremely quickly. And, his action is reminiscent of the man who played for South Africa in the 1990s and the early 2000s, Paul Adams.

Now, Koththigoda’s action has got the cricketing world by storm and the fans just cannot keep quiet. The fans took to Twitter to express their reactions to his action.

Koththigoda is plying his trade for the Maratha Arabians

In the ongoing edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 league, the 22-year-old spinner is plying his trade for the Maratha Arabians. The spinner could bowl just one over in the league so far, as he fell over in his first over in the match against the Lahore Qalandars on 2nd February 2021 and got injured.

As far as the match is concerned, the Qalanders romped home by 4 wickets and 11 balls to spare against the Arabians. Mohammad Hafeez’s blazing 26-ball 44 helped the Maratha side to post a total of 101 runs on the board. But then, the Qalanders proved too good for the Arabians with the willow. The likes of Sharjeel Khan, Sohail Akhtar, and Ben Dunk all contributed useful cameos as the Qalanders made light work of the target. Sohail Tanvir was the pick of the bowlers for the Qalanders with the ball, scalping 3 wickets, and giving away 22 runs in his 2 overs.

The Abu Dhabi T10 league is entering the business end, with just 3 more league stage matches left. The league, which started on 28th January 2021, will conclude on 6th February 2021. As far as the top performers are concerned, T Kohler Cadmore has scored the most runs in the league thus far (206), while Ali Khan has been the pick of the bowlers this tournament, scalping 7 wickets.

Meanwhile, bowlers like Koththigoda are not common in the world of cricket, and they keep the fans at the edge of their seats with their unconventional bowling action.
