Abu Jayed earns call-up for two-day practice match

After decent performances in the first class circuit, fast bowler, Abu Jayed Rahi has been included in the Bangladesh warm-up squad for a two-day warm-up against India-A as a back-up bowler. The Bangladesh cricket Board (BCB) named the 23-year-old youngster in the warm-up squad as an additional pacer to bolster their bowling attack.

Bangladesh Cricket Board has already picked 15 players for the one-off Test match, and Abu Jayed will join them as 16th member to play the practice match only. The 15 member touring Bangladesh squad is already in Hyderabad for the historic Test which will be the first ever time in their 18 years Test history that they will be playing a Test match on Indian soil.

Abu Jayed’s best bowling performance came against the Central Zone in the ongoing Bangladesh Cricket League while playing for the Islami Bank East Zone. He picked up 7 wickets and made a strong case for himself for a maiden call-up in the national team.

According to reports, Jayed will be playing for Bangladesh in the two-day practice game ahead leading into the historic Test. The match will be played at Secunderabad on 5th and 6th February. Playing 50 first-class matches has bagged 156 wickets at an impressive average of 25.51.

He also boasts of 9 five-wicket hauls to his name. Bangladesh though ranked 9 in the ICC team Rankings, have the capability to overhaul; a good team especially in subcontinental conditions.

Bangladesh has some excellent spinners in their bowling line up and the Indian think tank might be reluctant to induce a rank turner in the one-off Test. The teenager spinner Mehedi Hasan wrecked havoc against England in spin friendly conditions and he is expected to play a big role for Bangladesh in Hyderabad.
