ACB announces ODI and T20I squad for Afghanistan's tour of Ireland

The Afghanistan Cricket Board recently announced the ODI and T20I squads for the cricket team’s upcoming tour of Ireland. Their campaign starts with a three-match T20I series followed by a three-matches ODI series. The 20-overs fixtures start on August 20 and the contests will be played at Bready Cricket Club, Bready, Northern Ireland.

The ODI series gets underway on August 27 at Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast. Both the teams will be led by Asghar Stanikzai, the 30-year-old cricketer from Kabul. The likes of Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, both of whom have been revelations in world cricket over the past one and half years, will have to shoulder the mantle in the bowling lineup across both the formats.

Afghanistan cricket’s decent run

Mohammad Nabi, Samiullah Shinwari, and Mohammad Shahzad, who have been a part of the setup for almost a decade, need to stand tall as well. Afghanistan’s form in the year 2018 has been stupendous, to say the least. They have played 12 ODIs out of which they have emerged victorious in eight of them. The team beat Zimbabwe in the five-match ODI series.

Thereafter, they qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup in England and Wales next year. They also beat the Windies in the final of the Qualifiers in Zimbabwe. In the T20 format, they are unbeaten after five matches having beaten Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in Sharjah and Dehradun respectively. Stanikzai and Co would now be keen to replicate their impressive form in the upcoming fixtures as well.
