The 1st match in Group A of the ACC Under-19s Asia Cup 2019 will be played between India Under-19s and Kuwait Under-19s at the Colombo Cricket Club Ground.
The match starts at 9:30 AM local time (4:00 AM GMT) (9:30 AM IST).
India Under-19s will kick start the 2019 Under-19s Asia Cup when they face Kuwait Under-19s in what would be the first match of the tournament. As many as 8 teams will take part in this tournament with four teams placed in two Group. India and Kuwait are placed in Group A which is filled with the like of Pakistan Under-19s and Afghanistan Under-19s.
Indian team is the defending champions of the tournament having won the 2018 edition hosted by Bangladesh. The current set of players did taste success when toured England recently. They emerged as champions of the Tri-nation U19 tournament that involved the hosts England and another Asian side, Bangladesh. The keeper-batsman Dhruv Chand Jurel will lead the team in this tournament.
The defending champions’ first game of the tournament is expected to be affected by rain. Even a washout is possible given the weather forecast for Thursday. Scattered thunderstorms are expected throughout the day.
The Colombo’s CCC has hosted only one Youth ODI since 2007; that too in 2014. The recent matches at this venue recorded totals between 200 and 250 more than often. The lesser the score, the higher the chances of winning is seen at this venue.
Average first innings score: 278 (Youth ODI matches since 2014)

(Will be added when there is an update)
The Kuwait skipper Abdul Sadiq and Jandu Hamoud have brilliant records with both bat and ball. It is to be seen how they replicate that success against India. Meet Bhavsar has scored two centuries for Kuwait U19s and is one player to even score a ton for them in the current line-up. Nehal Wadhera has great numbers in the U19 level One-Day competitions.
Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:
Captain – Thakur Tilak Verma, Dhruv Jurel, Abdul Sadiq
Vice-Captain – Jandu Hamoud, Shashwat Rawat, Meet Bhavsar
The likes of Thakur Tilak Verma and Dhruv Jurel will be crucial especially when India bats first or they are in a short chase. Tilak succeeded in the middle order during the Tri-Series in England. He will get a chance of opening where he has an impeccable record in age level tournaments. Dhruv is expected to lead the team from the front like and continue where he left with the bat during that Tri-Nation series.
Suggested Playing XI No.1 for Fantasy Cricket:
Keeper – Dhruv Chand Jurel, Meet Bhavsar
Batters – Shashwat Rawat, Thakur Tilak Verma (C), Nehal Wadhera
All-Rounders – Abdul Sadiq, Jandu Hamoud (VC), Karan Lal
Bowlers – Sushant Mishra, A Sanjeev Nair, Vidyadhar Patil
Suggested Playing XI No.2 for Fantasy Cricket:
Keeper – Dhruv Chand Jurel (C), Meet Bhavsar
Batters – Nehal Wadhera, Shashwat Rawat, Thakur Tilak Verma
All-Rounders – Abdul Sadiq (VC), Jandu Hamoud
Bowlers – Sushant Mishra, Purnank Tyagi, Aamir Ali, Pankaj Yadav
The difference in quality between India and Kuwait might be exposed during this match. To be on the safe side, ignore picking more players from Kuwait team. If India bat first, as many top-order batsmen as possible from the Indian team can be picked. More bowlers if they would be bowling first.
India Under-19s are expected to begin the tournament with a huge win.
