Australian batsman Adam Voges recently suffered an unfortunate and ill-timed calf injury during a County Championships fixture in England. The serious injury will now see him head back home for the recovery. Voges hurt his calf when he was batting for his County side Middlesex in the Division 1 game against Somerset. He was seen in serious pain and had to undergo scans for the same.

The scans have indicated that he will be out of action for 6 weeks from now. Adam Voges will return for the English domestic season in July though for the T20 tournament. As per the recent reports in Cricke.com.au, Voges has set a target return of August 3 for the T20 clash against Hampshire. Middlesex team manager Angus Fraser commented that losing Adam Voges is a big blow since he was a key player not only with bat but also in the field.

“Losing Adam is naturally a blow as he contributes significantly to everything we do, whether it be with bat in hand, catching at slip or his general presence around the team. His absence, however, does give opportunities to other players who are desperate to play in the First XI. In the past we have coped well without an overseas player and I expect us to do so now,” quoted Fraser.

Well equipped to deal with the blow

He, however, added that the team is ready to deal with the blow since Voges was anyway expected to fly back to Australia. His departure would have created voids for other overseas stars to join the team. Brendon McCullum and Tim Southee are expected to join the team for T20 competition. However, McCullum will have to leave midway for Caribbean Premier League. That is the time when the room for Adam Voges will be created again.

“Adam was always due to return to Australia for a month after our County Championship match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston. This was to allow us to register Brendon McCullum and Tim Southee for the (domestic T20 competition),” said Fraser.

“Adam has now agreed to come back early at the end of July to be available for these games and all our remaining fixtures. By then Brendon will have travelled to the Caribbean to play in the CPL. Every indication we have had is that Adam will be fully fit and raring to go by then,” he added further.
