Will Ireland save some pride by winning the dead rubber?
Updated - Feb 23, 2019 11:35 pm
The Ireland team is having a miserable time in the T20I series against Afghanistan. The Asian side is proving to be very strong opposition for their liking and the results have reflected the same. Afghanistan decimated the opposition in the second T20I to clinch the series with one more game to go.
Hazratullah Zazai and Usman Ghani played sublime knocks in the match to hand the team over with a massive win. The third and the last T20I between these two sides will be played on Sunday itself and the teams have got very little time to recover. However, all that the Afghans will be looking at is a clean sweep from this stage.
Pitch and Conditions
Even though they struggled slightly with the bat in the series opener, Afghanistan team enjoyed batting in the second T20I. The track at Dehradun has a good amount of assistance for the spinners. Once the batsmen settle in, they can easily get big scores. Clear skies are predicted for the upcoming game and there will be a drop in the temperatures as the game progresses.
By bringing Usman Ghani into the eleven, Afghanistan pulled off a great move in the last game. The experience of Asghar Afghan will help the middle-order while Hazratullah Zazai is destructive as usual. For the final game, the management might look to slot Zahir Khan into the eleven and hand him over his much-awaited debut.
Predicted XI: Hazratullah Zazai, Usman Ghani, Asghar Afghan (C), Karim Janat, Mohammad Nabi, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Najibullah Zadran, Shafiqullah Shafiq (wk), Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman/Zahir Khan, Fareed Malik.
Ireland team could look at the last game of the series as an opportunity to try out their bench strength. James Shannon might get a chance to play for the team. He could replace either of Lorcan Tucker or Shane Getkate. Also, Andy McBrine might get consideration in place of Simi Singh although it seems highly unlikely. George Dockrell, Boyd Rankin, Joshua Little and Peter Chase are likely to continue in the eleven and will form the core of the bowling attack.
Predicted XI: Paul Stirling (C), Kevin O’Brien, Andrew Balbirnie, James Shannon, Simi Singh, George Dockrell, Shane Getkate, Stuart Poynter (wk), Joshua Little, Boyd Rankin, Peter Chase.
