After the tremendous promise that he has shown in the home series against the Windies, the expectations were high on Prithvi Shaw for the series down under. Being a good backfoot player, he was assumed to do well on the bouncy Australian pitches. At the same time, it would have given him enough exposure playing against the world’s best pace attack at the moment to build on his game.

Moreover, Shaw looked good with a 66 off 69 balls in the practice game against Cricket Australia XI. After this performance, he could have made it straight into the playing XI for the first Test. However, destiny had other plans for him.

The start of his Australian tour also ended up being the end of it for him. In this very match, young Shaw twisted his ankle while fielding. He looked to be in unbearable pain and had to be lifted off the field. Immediately, scans were done and it was declared that he was ruled out of the first Test in Adelaide. While he was expected to return for the second game, he didn’t recover in time.

Many thought Shaw will definitely be back by the third Test with a good interval between the two games. But, the fans were struck with a disastrous news as he was ruled out of the entire series. The youngster will be replaced by Mayank Agarwal in the squad.

Throw me to the wolves and I’ll come back

While it is common for anyone of his age to be highly disappointed with the outcome, Prithvi Shaw isn’t really upset. In fact, he vows to come back stronger and better. Shaw assured the same to his fans in one of his Instagram stories. ‘Throw me to the wolves and I’ll come back leading the pack. Watch out gonna come back more stronger,’ he wrote.
