After cricketer Hardik Pandya found himself in the middle of a controversy for making allegedly sexist remarks against women, the popular show ‘Koffee With Karan’ has come under more scrutiny. Internet sleuths have now dug up an old clip of the show in which Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh made a “sexist” remarks and the Twitterati came up with reactions against it.

Pandya and his teammate KL Rahul recently appeared on the show where they made some sexist remarks which not only turned the fans off but also moved the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to mull banning the two cricketers for two games each. The duo is currently in Australia to play in the three-game ODI series starting Saturday.

The clip featuring Ranveer and Anushka Sharma, who is now the better half of Indian captain Virat Kohli, is from 2011. It shows the actor making jokes about co-actors like Kareena Kapoor and Anushka that the Twitterati found to be in low taste. “It’s unfortunate that the bar has been set so low for stars and cricketers (cough “Pandya” cough),” one tweet said. “Still people will glorify them,” replied another user.

Although Ranveer’s jokes saw the anchor Karan Johar and Anushka laughing, there was one instance where the actress looked stunned by Ranveer’s joke and told him: “You don’t speak to me like that.” Ranveer just had a successful film in the form of ‘Simmba’ directed by Rohit Shetty and will be seen next in Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Gully Boy’ opposite Alia Bhatt. Ranveer is also set to portray the role of India’s first World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev in some future project.

Kohli distanced Team India from Pandya-Rahul episode

On Friday, Kohli distanced the Indian team from the Pandya-Rahul controversy saying it was something concerning the individuals and had nothing to do with the Indian team’s focus and feat. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar also opined that such a controversy is not going to affect the Indian team’s dressing room. India have just won a historic Test series in Australia and will now look to win their maiden bilateral ODI series Down Under as well.
