AGM: BCCI approves five-day women Tests

Unlike the men’s team, India’s women’s cricket team largely participated in four-day Tests in the longest format.

Some crucial decisions were made in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday (December 4) in Kolkata. While changes were made in India’s upcoming due to of South Africa due to COVID-19 concerns, approved five-day Tests for the women’s team. Unlike the men’s team, India’s women’s cricket team largely participated in four-day Tests in the longest format.

It must be noted that India’s women’s national team made its comeback in the longest format after a wait of long years earlier this year. Despite not being familiar to the drill of Test matches, the Indian team performed brilliantly and challenged big guns like Australia and England away from him. While the side couldn’t win the two fixtures, they managed a draw.

Coming to another major calls made in the AGM, Brijesh Patel and MKJ Majumdar were re-inducted into the IPL Governing Council while former left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha was selected to continue as the representative of the Indian Cricketers Association in the GC.

Crucial decision made in BCCI AGM

The seven-member Governing Council is now studded with (secretary and treasurer – Jay Shah and Arun Singh Dhumal), CEO (Hemang Amin), one representative from Players’ Association (Pragyan Ojha), a nominee of the CAG (CM Sane) and two members elected by the AGM (Brijesh Patel and MKJ Majumdar).

Notably, the annual budget of FY 2021-22 was adopted by the General Body. The audited accounts for FY 2019-20 and 2020-21 were adopted by the General Body. Speaking of the changes made to India’s tour of South Africa, the four-match T20I series has been postponed. The same was confirmed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah. Hence, the two sides will play three Tests and as many ODIs, reportedly starting from December 26.

“India will play three Tests and as many ODIs in South Africa as scheduled but the four-match T20I series will be held at a later date,” Shah was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Meanwhile, the age limit of match officials and support staff membets has been increased to 65 from 60 years subject to their fitness. The infrastructure development of the North-Eastern States, Puducherry, Bihar and Uttarakhand will be initiated by the BCCI.
