Bangladesh’s ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza has been one of the pillars of the team. He battled out many injuries and also provided his team with quite a few memorable wins. A veteran of 187 ODI games, Mashrafe is far away from being done at this point in time of his career. Mashrafe picked 238 wickets in as many games and is working hard to scale further heights in his career.

Recently, Mashrafe also became the highest wicket-taker in the nation’s list-A tournament, Dhaka Premier League. He now has 39 wickets to his name in the tournament and has surpassed Abu Hider who has 35 wickets. With this effort, he has also helped his side Abahani Limited reach the title.

Mashrafe Mortaza credits the success to Stuart Broad

Mashrafe Mortaza has credited his new-found success to England’s Stuart Broad. He seemed to have picked a trick or two from the English fast bowler. Mashrafe stated that he tried to bowl the cross-seam delivery just like Stuart Broad does. He also said that he was working on his wrist positions to be able to bowl better. Mashrafe now aspires to churn out better results on flat wickets.

“I have tried to bowl in a semi-cross seam position much like England’s Stuart Broad. I worked with my wrist position like the way I always do. But for me, the focal point was to learn some new tricks that would help me get a better result in flat wickets,” Mashrafe quoted.

Mashrafe feels that the cross-seam delivery will help him find better success on all pitches across the world. He feels that this will help him do better in England during the World Cup 2019. The Bangladesh bowlers didn’t find a great deal of success during the Champions Trophy last year.

“It was a flat wicket during the Champions Trophy and it would be the same in the next World Cup so felt that something new should be tried. I could grip the ball with seam-up and cross seam but this time I opted to see how it goes with a semi-cross seam,” he noted.

Bangladesh’s next international assignment will be against Afghanistan in a 3-ODI series.
