Shreyas Iyer’s superb 75* helps India to 258/4

The Indian side ended the first day with their scorecard reading a commanding 258/4. And the man who was the catalyst of the Indian side with the willow in hand was debutant Shreyas Iyer.

Iyer blended his innings with caution and aggression and thwarted the Kiwi challenge. The right-hander scored a stroke-filled 75* off 136 deliveries, and his innings was studded with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Apart from Iyer, the likes of Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja also slammed half-centuries.

Iyer and Jadeja have now stitched together an unbeaten stand of 113 runs for the 5th wicket to keep New Zealand at bay. For New Zealand, tall right-arm pacer Kyle Jamieson did most of the damage with the ball.

Jamieson scalped 3 wickets and gave away runs at an economy rate of 3.06 runs per over. Apart from Jamieson, Tim Southee also picked up a solitary wicket as well.
