Ajinkya Rahane: I would like to dedicate this to the people in Chennai and the Indian Army

Indian bowlers put in a determined effort giving the team regular breakthroughs which endured a series win by 3-0 for the home team. The South African batsmen put up a fight and didn’t give up as AB de Villiers in the company of other batsmen continued to block with determination, however, two crucial wickets between lunch and tea opened up the match for India who didn’t let go of the opportunity.

The twin centurion of the match, Ajinkya Rahane was the unanimous choice for the man of the match award and richly deserved it. He showed great composure in both the innings, however, the hundred in the first innings was extra special since it got India out of a very difficult situation and was also his 1st hundred at home. R Ashwin was declared the Man of the Series for his magnificent bowling efforts throughout the series. He took 31 wickets and also scored some important runs lower down the order.

After being presented the Man of the Match award, Ajinkya Rahane said: “Really enjoyed that, I would like to dedicate this to the people in Chennai who are suffering from the floods and the Indian army who is helping out, this one is for them … Really happy for me and my team. I always like to improve my game, my cricketing skills, believe in my process because the results will follow.”

He won the 5th Man of the Series of his career and is now at the top of the chart of the Indians with most MoS awards, R Ashwin said: “I think it is a great feeling, a fitting finale to a wonderful series, we were going for it, we fought really hard, they dug in really deep … generally all these black soil wickets, there’s not much bounce .., massive support from Jadeja, he hits the stumps so often, amazing support from me, and let’s not forget Umesh …”
