Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu has said that they have supported Mominul Haque mentally time and again. The 25-year-old was dropped from the Test side announced for the Australia series. There were speculations, though that he might be ousted from the national side.
However, when the news officially came true, the selectors had to face a number of questions from the reporters at the press conference. The chief selector replied to all the questions on behalf of the selection panel.
Nannu also mentioned that the board had supported him in his bad times. “We have always provided Mominul with mental support. We always give him support and speak about him. We watch his batting. We discuss a lot. After bringing him back from Sri Lanka, we gave him the opportunity to play in the emerging cup, always kept him in consideration for an alternative,” claimed Minhajul Abedin Nannu.
Mominul still in our plans
The southpaw from Bangladesh had performed well and his statistics were excellent too. The selector also went on to say that many cricketers have gone through tough times and have comeback strongly. He also claimed that they had no plans for Mominul this time but he is still in their plans.
“In a 14-man squad, including a third opener or an extra batsman becomes difficult. You will see what we do with him in future. Maybe you’ll see him in the next series,” he concluded.
Mominul Haque has played a handful of 22 Tests so far in his short career and boasts a decent average of 46.88. He has also scored 4 centuries and 11 half centuries which proves he is a talented lad. The left-hander will surely strive hard to make a comeback into the national side.
Mominul has also played in 26 One Day Internationals but has been poor in the limited overs. But he needs to be given a decent chance to prove himself at the highest level.
