The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League saw the rise of several players who have the capability of representing their nation at the highest level. There were also players who just didn’t get things right and put up a dismal show in the tournament. The IPL is very competitive and it brings out the best in players. One needs to work hard on his fitness and skills as things do not get easy in the biggest league in the world.

The Chennai Super Kings surprised everyone at the auction by going in with players who were probably past their prime days. They purchased Ambati Rayudu who had represented Mumbai Indians in the previous editions. Rayudu has been a good player for Mumbai Indians and has made the most of the opportunities that he got.

Though he has done well in the past, he was not known to be someone who can dominate the game on a consistent basis and turn the tide regularly. He proved his doubters wrong and has his best IPL season with CSK.

Duly rewarded

Rayudu scored 602 runs from 16 matches, including a century and three half-centuries. He was hosted by Harbhajan Singh in the Quick Heal Bhajji Blast show where he revealed his lucky charm. He said: “Har saal ek bat leta hu Virat (Kohli) se, usko bhi maloom ho gaya ki tashan hai. Is saal to gaali deke diya hai.” It seems that his lucky charm has worked big time as Rayudu showed a whole new side of his game in IPL 2018. He hit the third-most number of sixes in the tournament which is also his personal best with Kohli’s bat.

The 32-year old has worked a lot on his fitness. He is looking as good as ever and was duly rewarded for his performances with a place in the Indian ODI team.  He has scored 1,055 runs from 34 ODIs at an average of 50.23, including 2 centuries and 6 half-centuries.

Though he has done well for India, he hasn’t been able to cement his place in the side. With the World Cup just around the corner, Rayudu will be hoping to display his best in England to earn a spot for the flagship event next year.
