Ambati Rayudu, the former Indian right-handed batsman, is set to be back on the cricket field. The Guntur-born will be back in action from August 19 in Chennai when he joins the Grand Slam in the TNCA one-day league for the VA Parthasarathy trophy as per reports in Sportstar. The tournament will be an ideal platform for the veteran Rayudu to remain in good shape.

The reason for the same is that he hasn’t made any announcement regarding not playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, earlier there were reports that he has decided to quit the IPL as well where he plays for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), captained by MS Dhoni. Rayudu has been a part of the CSK for a couple of years and has done reasonably well for them.

If he decides to quit the T20 extravaganza in India, then he’ll be eligible to follow the footsteps of Yuvraj Singh and Manpreet Gony, who recently played in the second edition of the Global Canada T20 at the CAA Centre, Brampton, Ontario. In that case, the 33-year-old Rayudu will be able to ply his trade in various T20 leagues across the cricketing world.

Ambati Rayudu earlier announced his retirement

He played his last international match back in March versus Australia. To the surprise of many, he didn’t get picked in the 15-man squad for the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. After the snub for the mega event, Rayudu shared a message on Twitter, which seemed to be directed at the Indian selectors. Rayudu said that he was wishing to buy 3D glasses for the World Cup.

Rayudu wasn’t even considered even after Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar got ruled out of the tournament. Rather, the likes of Rishabh Pant and Mayank Agarwal were preferred over him. The decision of the selectors didn’t go down well with Rayudu by any means and he planned to retire.

Rayudu hung his boots from all forms of international cricket with immediate effect. He made his national comeback in the 2018 Asia Cup in the UAE and put himself in contention for the debated number four position in the Indian lineup. He played some handy knocks, but couldn’t hold on to his slot.
