Anand Mahindra, the chairman of the Mahindra Group, has shown his fandom for Axar Patel and watched the second T20I between India and England by wearing shades. Though Axar wasn’t a part of the playing eleven, the hosts won the match by seven wickets on the backs of Ishan Kishan’s 56 and Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 73.

It also helped the home team draw level in the five-match series. Earlier, after India won the four-match Test series 3-1, Mahindra pledged to buy the sunglasses that Axar wore. In three Tests during the series, Patel picked up 27 wickets with four five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul.

In the meantime, after India’s win in the longer format, Mahindra took to Twitter and wrote, “Now I need to get these sunglasses to commemorate the victory. Which brand are they and where can I get them?”

My wife thinks I’m crazy: Anand Mahindra

After the second T20I on Sunday night, Mahindra wrote, “I said I was going to get myself a pair of ‘Axar’s shades’ to commemorate the series win. Bought a pair (thanks Sporting Tool Relish!) & all set to watch the match tonight. I know, I know; no shades needed to watch TV & wife thinks I’m crazy but maybe it’ll be a good luck charm!”

Thereafter, he also promised to post a picture of himself with the sunglasses if India go on to win the T20I series. “Sirji, I meant agar hum SERIES jeetenge! Let these shades prove they’re not just a ‘one-match wonder’ & will be lucky for the whole series…”

Ryan Sidebottom praises Axar

Apart from the business tycoon, Axar also drew praises from the cricket fraternity. Recently, Ryan Sidebottom, the former English speedster, also lauded the tweaker for his impressive show. He was in awe of Axar’s bowling and said that the latter “made Test cricket look easy”.

“It was great for Axar to come in and take all those wickets. He made Test cricket look easy, the way he performed,” Sidebottom was quoted as saying in an interview with The Times of India (TOI). Sidebottom is currently playing for England Lions in the Road Safety World Series in Raipur.
