Former Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews has been subject to injuries since the start of the career. A great talent has been marred by injuries right through. We have seen Angelo win games from Sri Lanka single-handedly and then we have seen him sidelined months after months.

Mathews’ injury record and the burden he is carrying being the senior most member of the team is just immense. However, the 30-year-old has always come back and has never backed down. That said, after he was forced out of the tour opener in Abu Dhabi, the all-rounder is set to miss the last Test match of the series as well.

Mathews to miss the 2nd Test as well

He had injured his calf muscle while training in Colombo before the Test series against Pakistan in Dubai. He was scheduled for return right before the second Test but the physiotherapist thinks he is still short of being cent percent fit.

A source close to Cricbuzz revealed that it is very unlikely that the former captain will be fit for the second Test. He said, “Angelo will undergo a fitness test in Colombo on Monday and then we will know for sure, but it is very unlikely that he will play the second Test. The physiotherapist is not confident that he will make it before the second Test.”

Understanding his injury an what likes ahead rushing him will be naïve as they have a lot of cricket scheduled and wouldn’t want to risk him for a larger part. “We would love to have him for the second Test, but we have a lot of cricket ahead of us over the next six months and there’s no point in rushing him. We need him fully fit for the ODI series,” the source added.

It will be interesting to see how things unfold in the coming week. As of today, the Lankans are doing well in the first Test, they have scored 419 in the first innings and have taken 4 Pakistani wickets for 266 runs.
