After much anticipation, when the front-runner in the race, Ravi Shastri, was finally appointed as the head coach of India, another confusion arose. While it was reported that along with Shastri’s appointment, Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan were ‘appointed’ as batting and bowling consultants to the team, it was later said the two former India internationals were not appointed but ‘recommended’ for the same posts.

It was believed that Ravi Shastri was against the appointment of the two, and that he instead preferred former India bowling coach Bharat Arun for the full-time post. And Shastri, as we saw, had his way. While Arun has taken 4 wickets in Test and a solitary wicket in limited overs cricket, Zaheer Khan, has 311 and 282 wickets in Tests and ODIs respectively.

Amidst all the confusion that has taken place in selection of the extended coaching staff, the former member of Committee of Administrators (COA), Ramchandra Guha has come out in criticism of the treatment meted out to Dravid and Zaheer.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “The shameful treatment of Anil Kumble has now been compounded by the cavalier treatment of Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid,” Guha tweeted. “Kumble, Dravid and Zaheer were true greats of the game who gave it all on the field. They did not deserve this public humiliation,” he added.

Here is how twitter reacted

The BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman picked Shastri as the Indian team head coach, and ‘recommended’ Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid as bowling and batting consultants respectively.

However, after even being repeatedly asked to clearly officiate the roles of the two, there has been no definite answer yet. To keep Dravid and Zaheer hanging in uncertainty is a mark of disrespect for the two who have done a lot for Indian cricket. Twitterati are thus bashing BCCI for their mistreatment towards both.
