Anil Kumble is one of the greatest cricketers India have ever produced. The experienced campaigner made his international debut in a Test match against Sri Lanka in Sharjah in April 1990, and ever since, he didn’t look back by any stretch of the imagination. A few months later in the same year, the leg-break bowler made his Test debut against England in Manchester.
In his illustrious career, Kumble went on to play 132 Tests and 271 ODIs in which he went on to notch 619 and 337 wickets respectively. Kumble was no mug with the bat either. The 48-year-old scored 2506 and 938 runs respectively in Tests and ODIs. He has five international half-centuries in his kitty to go with a century against the Brits at The Oval when India toured the nation in 2007.
Anil Kumble shows his humble character
His last international appearance was in a Test match against Australia in 2008 at Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. Kumble also had the privilege of playing in the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL). The Karnataka-born played 42 T20s in which he went on to pick 45 wickets at an average of 23.51 and an economy rate of 6.58, which is stupendous in the generation of slam-bang cricket.
His best figures of 5/5 came against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2009 edition of the T20 tournament. In the meantime, Kumble showed his grounded nature. A fan by the name of Tanvi Dubey was travelling in the same flight as Kumble. Quite expectantly, she would’ve wished to make his flight memorable and she asked the retired cricketer for a selfie via the social media platform.
The supporter took to Twitter and wrote, “OMG just spotted @anilkumble1074 We are in the same flight. Can I please get a selfie? Please…”

Kumble spotted the message and he didn’t disappoint the fan by any means. He reverted and wrote, “Sure. After take off!,”
