The Indian team today set off for the tour of the United Kingdom where they will first play a couple of matches against Ireland. They will be in that part of the world until mid-September as the Men in Blue will play 3 ODIs, 3 T20Is and five Test matches against England this summer. Captain Virat Kohli who regained fitness will be leading the team and ahead of the tour he bid adieu to his wife Anushka Sharma in Mumbai today.

Anushka was there at the airport to drop her hubby off, they hugged and Virat turned towards the departure gate, turned back waved at her and walked off. Two extremely busy professionals from their respective fields, Virat and Anushka seldom find time to spend together. She is expected to join the Indian team in England in the later part of the tour after wrapping up her commitments.

Virat 110% fit now

Ahead of the team’s departure, skipper Virat Kohli and the head coach Ravi Shastri interacted with the media in New Delhi. Kohli was asked about his fitness and how he is feeling at the moment, answering that he said, “I am 100 percent fine now and absolutely ready to go. My neck is fine now. I’ve had good practice & played 6-7 sessions in Mumbai. Breaks like these make you fresh mentally. It has made me excited to go back on to the pitch again.”

He was scheduled to represent Surrey in a few county matches to prepare for the England Tests. However, the injury he sustained during the IPL forced him to opt out of the arrangement. Virat seems rather happy as he is more than 100% fit now and excited for the tour.

“In hindsight, not playing county cricket was the best thing to happen at that moment although I wanted to experience the conditions. England is a place where we haven’t played so much, there is a big gap of four years. So I wanted to acclimatize to the damp conditions,” he said.

“But when I look at it now, attempting to get used to conditions with a 90 percent fit body wasn’t a good idea. Glad I missed it. Now I am 110 percent and I would much rather be in this position. I need to be fresh and that was the best thing to happen,” Virat stated.
