'Are these COVID preventive measures?' - Virender Sehwag's dig at England's attempt to tamper the ball at Lord's

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag is known for his witty and humorous tweets on social media. He keeps on entertaining the fans and also gives his views on different matters in cricket. Sehwag has been quite busy talking about the ongoing Test series between England and India. The second Test at Lord’s is currently in progress and he didn’t miss the moment when England’s players kept the ball under their spikes during the fourth day’s play.

During the second session, when Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara were batting well, the ball was spotted under the England players shoes. As they have spikes, they can potentially change the condition of the red cherry. Several pictures of the same went viral on social media as even the likes of Aakash Chopra questions if the ball is being tampered.

Sehwag also took a dig at England for their actions on the field hilariously asking if they are taking any COVID preventive measures by keeping the ball under their shoes. “Yeh kya ho raha hai. Is it ball tampering by Eng ya covid preventive measures,” Sehwag’s tweet read.

Stuart Broad plays down any undoing

Meanwhile, even England pacer Stuart Broad came across the pictures and decided to give his views on the matter. One of the fans questioned why the umpires didn’t get involved and asked why the ball wasn’t changed. Responding to the tweet, Broad cleared that unless damaged, the ball is not changed. He also felt that the red cherry shouldn’t be replaced after hitting a six.

Depends If it was damaged? Exactly the same if it was hit into the stands. If it didn’t make a mark, why change it ?

Broad has also been busy defending his mates saying that it wasn’t intentional from the players and asked one of the Twitter users to watch the full footage.

As far as the match is concerned, it is interestingly poised with India kind of recovering from the early blows in the second innings. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have batted really well but they have been too slow with India’s lead nearing 100 runs.
