Popular Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor is reportedly being in frame to portray the role of iconic former Indian cricket Kapil Dev. In the recent times, the Bollywood has been drooling over the biopics. It all started a decade ago when Chak De India portrayed the sporting glory of hockey in an attempt to glorify the game in the country.

Soon, the phase shifted to the more realistic and official movies being based on the life of the sporting heroes. From Bhaag Milkha Bhaag to Mary Kom, from Azhar to MS Dhoni – The Untold Story, and Sachin: A Billion Dreams – the movies have all been blockbuster hits. Also, the actors playing the roles have seen these flicks as their launching pads.

Sushant Singh Rajput had a breakthrough career hit with the MS Dhoni biopic last year. And now, if the reports in the media are to be believed, a new movie is on the blocks that will showcase the story of India’s first ever World Cup win.

Team India had won the 1983 World Cup under the leadership of legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev. During the course of the tournament, they were the underdogs. Also, they beat the then strong unit of the West Indies side. Hence, the achievement was the way more special.

Hrithik, Ranveer in consideration too

Now, as per some sources, the movie to be directed by Kabir Khan, will be announced on September 27. And in the lead role could be Anil Kapoor’s nephew Arjun Kapoor of the Two States fame. The reports also suggested that popular actors like Hrithik Roshan and Ranveer Singh were also considered for the role before the makers finally settled in with Arjun Kapoor.

“A mammoth event is being planned to announce the film on September 27. The makers hope that the Indian players who brought the cup home will grace the occasion,” a source said.
