Kuwait isn’t a massive name in world cricket and is currently taking baby steps in their journey to feature among the big names of the sport. However, they have managed to qualify for their maiden regional finals. Kuwait recently took part in the ICC World T20 Qualifiers and Arjun initially wasn’t a part of the squad. However, luck favoured him and he was selected for the team.

He attended a camp under coach Herschelle Gibbs but wasn’t selected when the squad was announced. Nevertheless, he came back and showed his skills in the Challenge Cup where he managed to produce a stupendous performance for Artech CC, who are the champions, roll over Kuwait by 2-0. Subsequently, he managed to bag the awards for the best batsman and the Man of the Tournament awards.

“Used to these kinds of situations”- Arjun Makesh

Against Saudi Arabia, Kuwait managed to defend a paltry target of 105 runs off 18 overs and won the game by 23 runs. He was introduced into the attack in the tenth over after which he strangled the batsmen with his leg-breaks and helped his team qualify. Recently, the Kochi-born cricketer mentioned about the skills he prefers to implement during crunch moments as per reports in Sportstar.

“I am used to these kinds of situations while playing for my club Artech CC as I usually bowl at the death. I have quite a reputation of being someone tough to score off in the death overs in the league.  I put all the fielders outside the circle and try to bowl dot balls rather than trying to take wickets. Against Saudi Arabia, I tried the same tactics and it worked,’’ Makesh mentioned.

Kuwait will now be up against the likes of Nepal, UAE and Qatar in the regional finals. “It will be tough for us but we still have a chance as two teams can qualify. We will play at our best and try to qualify,” he added.
