The former South Africa cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has been roped in by Rajasthani Heroes for the upcoming edition of T10 League. He is currently working as the head coach of Kuwait and the team has done well under him. Gibbs seems to have taken his new role seriously and it should not be a surprise if more teams approach him in the near future. However, he will be excited to coach a new side now in the newest format of cricket.
The second edition of the T10 League will see 8 teams competing for glory, unlike last year when only 6 teams had played. Kerala Kings had emerged victorious in the inaugural season. Bengal Tigers, Karachians, Maratha Arabians, Northern Warriors, Pakhtoon Team, Punjabi Legends are the other teams in the tournament. Also, Rajasthani Heroes is a re-branded franchise which was formerly known as Team Sri Lanka.
Gibbs himself confirms the news
Herschelle Gibbs himself took to his official Twitter handle to inform his fans and followers about the development. He was excited to join the team and hoped that the players will enjoy their stint under him. “Happy to announce that I’ve been appointed head coach of the @RajasthaniHeroes for the @T10LeagueTweets in Dubai later this year.looking forward to some fireworks from the lads,” he tweeted.
Gibbs has represented South Africa at the international level in 90 Tests, 248 ODIs and 23 T20Is. He amassed around close to 14500 runs and was known for his explosive hitting at the top of the order for his team. He is also the only player in the World to smash six maximums in one over in the ODI World Cup. He had achieved the feat against the Netherlands in 2007. But he decided to hang up his boots in 2010 and is now concentrating on taking up the coaching role.
