Arjun Tendulkar picked in Mumbai squad for Vizzy Trophy

Earlier this year, Arjun made his debut in the T20 Mumbai League.

Arjun Tendulkar, the son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, has been in the news for quite some time now. However, he hasn’t been able to make a major breakthrough in his career thus far and is yet to make his debut for Mumbai at first-class level. Recently, the 19-year-old has been named in the 15-man squad for the upcoming Vizzy Trophy, scheduled to take place from August 22.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) named the squad for the open tournament on Tuesday on its website and Arjun managed to find a place in the team. Last year, he made his debut for India U19 during the tour of Sri Lanka. Though he played the four-day games, he wasn’t picked for the One Dayers. The reason for the same that he wouldn’t qualify for the 2020 U19 World Cup.

Thereafter, he made his debut in the T20 Mumbai League where Sachin is the brand ambassador. The Young Turk was picked up for INR 5 lakhs and he played for the Akash Tigers MWS. Arjun’s team qualified for the semis but bowed out of the tournament after their defeat at the hands of SOBO Supersonics by 26 runs at the renowned Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

In the T20 league, Arjun batted in the middle order and was also entrusted to open the batting. He performed reasonably well with the willow. Moreover, he was also handy with his sharp left-arm fast bowling. Recently, he played cricket in England for the Marylebone Cricket Club Young Cricketers. Though he didn’t get much chance with the bat, he was amongst the wickets.

Back in 2017, a 17-year-old Arjun smacked Jonny Bairstow on the toe with a Yorker after which the batsman hobbled off the park. That particular incident gave Arjun a lot of limelight. Later, he also got the privilege to bowl at the Indian batsmen, including the likes of Virat Kohli, the all-format Indian captain. Arjun is approaching 20 and he’ll be looking to make some more inroads.
