It seems former Indian captain Bishan Singh Bedi was waiting for Virat Kohli’s men to bounce back into the series after the thumping they received at Lord’s. Former England captain Nasser Hussain had mocked India after the Lord’s match saying it was “men against boys” at the moment and criticised India’s meek surrender. He also warned India against allowing their wheels to fall off in the series which they trailed 0-2.

But the visitors came back strongly in the third Test at Trent Bridge and are currently on the verge of winning it after putting up a solid performance with the bat and ball. Their batsmen hit form in unison while Kohli continued with his flawless run. Moreover, the bowlers persisted with their clinical performance. England were shot out in one session on Day 2 of the match, conceding India a decisive lead of 168 runs.

Bedi, 71, known to be an outright speaker, remembered Hussain’s statement after the Lord’s Test and came up with his tweet countering it. On Tuesday, August 21, as India inched closer to making the series 2-1, he posted, “Indn ‘boys’ become ‘men’ almost overnight…so to speak.!!”

India have been the better side at Trent Bridge

The Three Lions were set a mammoth target of 521 by India in little over two days and they were 311 for 9 at stumps on Day 4, just delaying the inevitable till the last day. The hosts started the day at 23 for no loss but lost their top order in yet another slide to get reduced to 62 for 4. It was then Jos Buttler’s century (106) and Ben Stokes (62) who brought England back with a partnership of 169 for the fifth wicket.

But once Jasprit Bumrah removed Buttler, the floodgates were open and the hosts stared at their first defeat in the series. Bumrah, who returned to the side after a gap, took five wickets for 85 runs – his second fifer in this format in just four Tests. Hardik Pandya, who bagged a five-wicket haul in the first innings, got one in the second.
