The trend of wicketkeepers trying their hand with the ball isn’t new. Recently, we saw Pakistan’s wicketkeeper captain Sarfraz Ahmed taking the ball for a couple of overs. Adam Gilchrist created quite a spectacle taking a wicket in the Indian Premier League with the only ball he bowled. MS Dhoni even has a wicket in the limited-overs internationals.

Joining the bandwagon, we saw England’s limited-overs wicketkeeper trying his hand bowling off-spin. Jos Buttler was checking his bowling skills during a net session at Lord’s today. The 27-year-old’s tries to bowl off-spin and the England Cricket handle took to Twitter put up the video on social media asking people to decode it.

They asked the fans as to how they would like to describe the wicketkeeper’s bowling action. Former Pakistani spinner and currently the spin consultant of England senior team Saqlain Mushtaq is present in the background as Buttler attempts to bowl. He is known as the architect of the doosra, a delivery that spins from leg side to the off side for a right-handed batsman.

Here is Jos Buttler’s bowling video:

England cricketer Sam Billings joined the discussion. The wicketkeeper-batsman features in the limited-overs format for his nation. He suggested that Buttler was trying to mimic Saqlain Mushtaq. The latest spin sensation from Afghanistan didn’t shy away from adding his inputs. Rashid Khan asked if it was the ‘dossra’.

Jos Buttler after being elevated as the vice-captain of the team hasn’t reflected great form in the ongoing Test series against India. He scored 0 and 1 in the Edgbaston Test as England’s lower order batting crippled. Even in the first innings at Lord’s, Buttler was trapped lbw for 24 by Mohammed Shami after looking good for a while. However, with three Tests remaining, he still has a lot of time to step up.
