Adil Rashid, who bowled the ‘ball of the century’ that bamboozled and dismissed Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been credited to Saqlain Mushtaq who is the bowling coach of the England cricket team. Having been one of the premier spinners in his time, Mushtaq has stated that such deliveries came only once in a lifetime.

“It was magical and even a batsman of Kohli’s caliber was bamboozled by the delivery,” Saqlain said while talking to Daily Express. “Such deliveries are rare and we only get to see them once in a very long time.”

“The spinners played a major role in the team’s victory,” he said. “I’m happy to see that the spinners are improving under my guidance.”

‘Both spinners did really well’

Mushtaq added that both Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid were England‘s premier spinners and attributed to MS Dhoni’s strange innings at Lord’s. “Both the English spinners [Moeen and Rashid] bowled really well which did not allow Dhoni to express himself in an aggressive manner,” he said.

Mushtaq went on to add that he would love to witness Rashid play more Test cricket. The latter does not play Test cricket in a bid to focus on the limited-overs format, something that has seen them come up short on spin-bowling options in the longest format of the game. “Rashid no longer plays the longer version of the game but I firmly believe that he should continue playing Test match cricket,” he said.

With the likes of Dominic Bess and Jack Leach emerging, Mushtaq said that he was indeed excited about the notion with these two players making it into the side. “Bess is a talented spinner while Leach can also make a name for himself in the future,” he said.
