The Indian Premier League is upon us, and so are the tweets by its players. IPL stars have hit Twitter ahead of the season’s start on Wednesday.

But while Harbhajan Singh and Rohit Sharma deliver the title of the official anthem called ‘10 Saal Aapke Naam’ comfortably, New Zealand’s Tim Southee’s effort comes up short.

Southee, eventually, splutters out a “butter naan” hoping that his intentional slip-up does not turn out to be an omen for his outing ahead.

The opening match of the season is between 2016 winners Sunrisers Hyderabad and the runners-up Royal Challengers tomorrow, at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. Southee’s Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, take on Rising Pune Supergiants on 6th.

Mumbai Indians endured a difficult campaign last year as they failed to qualify for the playoffs after boasting of a strong squad. However, the outfit kept faith in their set of players and retained 20 players from last year, the most by any teas in the league.

Rohit Sharma and company added seven new players to their squad, with former Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson being the biggest name. Johnson, along with Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga would form a lethal pace attack. In case Johnson and Malinga are unable to sustain their fitness through the duration of the tournament, the Tim Southee and Mitchell McClenaghan can serve as great backup options.

As far as the batting department is concerned, Mumbai Indians are extremely blessed with Rohit Sharma, Jos Buttler, Kieron Pollard, Ambati Rayudu, Saurabh Tiwary offering a variety of options for the team. Not to forget good all-rounders like Krunal and Hardik Pandya and who would be expected to make valuable contributions with both bat and ball.

This time around, the MI Paltan, as they call themselves, will look to at least make it to the playoffs.
