Australia had a memorable outing in the opening Day of the first Test against England at The Gabba in Brisbane. Right from ball one, the hosts gave an account of how brutal they can be on home conditions. The Aussies bowled the Three Lions out for 147 in 50.1 overs. Pat Cummins, leading the Test team in Tim Paine’s absence, didn’t do his reputation any harm as he picked up a five-wicket haul.

It was Mitchell Starc, who unfolded mayhem to start with. The left-arm pacer castled opener Rory Burns in the very first ball of the match. Burns played around his legs only to see his stumps getting rattled. Thereafter, Josh Hazlewood and Joe Root came to the party and removed Dawid Malan and opposition skipper Joe Root. In fact, Root failed to open his account after facing nine balls.

Ben Stokes returned to playing cricket after a gap of around four months and he couldn’t make an impact as well. Cummins got rid of him in the first session itself. Ollie Pope and Jos Buttler scored 35 and 39 respectively, but couldn’t convert their starts. Chris Woakes got into the 20s before Cummins accounted for his wicket. Woakes’ dismissal also gave Cummins a fifer on captaincy debut.

Cameron Green bowled only three overs, but returned with the wicket of the in-form Pope. Nathan Lyon, the lone spinner in the Aussie lineup, couldn’t pick up a single wicket. He bowled nine overs and gave away 21 runs.

In the meantime, Queensland Police found out a rather cheeky and hilarious way to congratulate the Aussies on the stupendous bowling performance.

Queensland Police took to Twitter and wrote, “BNE traffic update: A large crowd for the first test so plan your Cummins and goings. We’d be Lyon if we said there’ll be nothing but Green lights near the Gabba. Don’t say we didn’t Warner,”

In case if one is finding it hard to comprehend the tweet, here’s a detailed explanation of the same.

Cummins refer to Coming

Lyon refers to Lying

Green refers to Cameron Green

Warner refers to Warne
