Team India handed over a debut to Hanuma Vihari in the fifth and final Test match against England at the Kennington Oval. He became the 292nd player to feature for India in the longest format of the game. But the former cricketers were not happy with the decision as he played ahead of Karun Nair who is with the team right from the start of the Test series. Even Ashish Nehra was also critical of the same and felt bad for Nair who has a triple century to his name.

Nair has warmed the bench throughout the series now and would’ve felt hard done after Vihari was preferred ahead of him. He definitely deserved a chance in this game if the visitors were thinking of playing an extra batsman. Nair has played in six matches for India and has scored 373 runs at an average of 62.33 and also has a brilliant triple century to his name. He had crossed the 300-run mark against England itself.

Nehra bemused

Ashish Nehra, much like Sunil Gavaskar, was bemused with Karun Nair not getting an opportunity to showcase his talent. He vented his frustration in the pre-match show on Sony Ten Network while lashing out at the selection process of Team India. “Ashish Nehra says Karun Nair is in England to Sell Chole…With Kulcha and achar and pyaz free,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gavaskar also felt the same as he went on to say that Nair has all the right to question the team management. “Karun Nair has every right to ask the team management, what has he done wrong to not be picked in the side. What has Karun Nair done not to get selected … its utter nonsense,” the former Indian cricketer said.

England seems to have won a good toss in the final Test as their openers are looking comfortable in the middle and have stitched their first fifty-plus stand in this series.
