When Ashton Turner was snapped up by the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2019 auctions for a sum of 50 Lakhs INR, many were surprised as Turner wasn’t really among the headlines, heading into the auction. It took three months for the World to witness his unbelievable talent of clean and straight hitting when he bashed his way to a 43-ball 84, in what was only his second ODI.

Following his destructive knock, many termed the buy made by Rajasthan Royals as a ‘Steal’ and rightly so, because clean-hitters carry a lot of value in IPL and the Double R’s were lucky to get away with this one. However, for the time being, Turner seems to be enjoying his maiden stint in the IPL with the RR, even though he hasn’t featured in a single game out of the six that the team has played.

“It’s such an exciting competition. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to go in any of the auctions earlier because of the shoulder surgeries I’ve had to have at the end of the Australian summer,” he said. To add to it, the off-spinning all-rounder admitted that he was surprised when he was picked up in the auction. “To be honest, I was initially baffled when I got to know that I was picked by Rajasthan Royals,” Turner told Sportstar. “It was pretty exciting news to wake up to that morning.”

“Everyone here in the team has also been very hospitable and generous with their time. I have a feeling we’ll go pretty deep in the tournament,” he added. Rajasthan are in a spot of bother at the moment, registering a solitary win in 6 of their games and they’re sitting at the 7th position on the points table, only above RCB who have played 6 games and have lost as many. To qualify for the playoffs, RR needs to win a minimum of as many as 6 fixtures out of their 8 remaining games and it is going to be a task.
