Any Pakistani cricket fan would’ve gone nuts after the way their cricket team performed in an all-important game against India in the Asia Cup. The Super Four beckoned for more competition but they literally succumbed and yet another Indo-Pak clash didn’t live up to the expectations. A humbling nine-wicket defeat has left the team out of ideas and Azhar Mahmood’s wife Ebba Qureshi has highlighted the reasons of the same.

Mickey Arthur, Pakistan’s coach, went on to say that there is a confidence crisis and a fear of failure in the dressing room currently and there is no room why such things crept in when the team was doing so well. They came into the tournament as the favourites and on the back of a proud record of being unbeaten in 14 limited-overs matches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

But when they faced India, one felt that all those wins were a fluke. Somehow, the team comes under immense pressure while playing against the arch-rivals and lose quite badly.

The team is more than capable of winning

Pakistan’s bowling coach Azhar Mahmood‘s role has also come under the scanner after their bowlers have managed to take only a couple of Indian wickets in both the encounters combined. However, his wife Ebba Qureshi has listed down a few reasons which perfectly sum up Pakistan’s performances so far in the Asia Cup and especially against the Men in Blue.

“Our men are more than capable of winning games – the major issue is confidence, taking pressure & lack of aggression in their game. That’s what’s cost us this tournament. My opinion. Nothing more. Don’t like getting personal or pointing fingers but that’s my collective thought,” she tweeted in frustration after her team lost again.

Sarfraz Ahmed’s troops now face a virtual semi-final clash against Bangladesh and even if they win it, the team will have to face India against whom they’ve struggled of late apart from the Champions Trophy triumph.
