Asia Cup 2018: Ravi Ashwin congratulates India on being coronated as the champions

India had an impressive campaign in the recently concluded 2018 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Their journey started with a rather jittery show against Hong Kong, but they gradually came into their own as the tournament progressed. 31-year-old Rohit Sharma was appointed as the captain, replacing Virat Kohli and Shikhar was give the mantle of vice-captaincy.

In their second Group match, the Men in Blue annihilated Pakistan by eight wickets in Dubai. With two victories, India topped the Group A. Rohit’s men made an impressive start in the Super 4 as well, beating Bangladesh in another one-sided affair. Their last match in the round against Afghanistan was a dead rubber and had no significance and hence, they rested a few players.

Ashwin impressed by India’s performance

It was the first instance when Rohit’s men didn’t quite find the going easy by any stretch of the imagination. Mohammad Shahzad’s century and Mohammad Nabi’s half-century lifted the Afghans to a respectable score. The Men in Blue huffed and puffed and could eke out a tie. Rashid Khan dismissed Ravindra Jadeja to bowl the Men in Blue out and deny India their fourth consecutive victory.

Their final against Bangladesh turned out to be a cliffhanger as the match went right down to the last delivery. India needed six runs off the last over and had Mahmudullah to counter. Eventually, Kuldeep Yadav and Kedar Jadhav dealt in singles and couples to shoulder Rohit and Co to victory by three wickets.

In the meantime, off-break bowler Ravichandran Ashwin congratulated the team. Ashwin will next be in action during India’s Test series against the Windies next month. Moreover, he also hailed Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma for their all-round show.
