Bangladesh have sealed their place in the final by defeating Pakistan in a virtual semi-final at Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. They will now face India in the title clash on Friday in Dubai and no wonder it will be a humdinger. It was a brilliant performance from Bangladesh on the day as their bowlers made 239 runs count. On the other hand, Pakistan looked troubled from the word go and once Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed there was no chance for them in the game and eventually succumbed to a 37-run defeat.

On has to credit Imam though as he batted superbly and with patience. He saw the team going down like ninepins and were reeling at 18/3 in the fourth over of the chase. But then he the left-hander added 67 runs with the man in form Shoaib Malik to bring back the innings on track. It required a special effort from Mashrafe Mortaza in the field to end the latter’s stint in the middle after which it the Tigers tightened the noose around the opposition.

The wickets kept on falling even as Imam kept on rotating the strike. However, even he lost his patience and came down the track to play a big shot off Mahmudullah and was stumped on 83. His wicket was the final nail in the coffin for Pakistan as their tail-enders couldn’t fight it out and could only post 202 runs.

Rahim turns it on for Bangladesh

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh also found themselves in dire straits at 12/3 thanks to the incisive spells from Junaid Khan and Shaheen Afridi. But the poor captaincy from Sarfraz Ahmed let them off the hook as Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun slammed half-centuries and put them in driver’s seat. However, the latter’s wicket opened the floodgates again and even the run-scoring became slow.

But Rahim getting out on 99 was a huge blow for Bangladesh as they couldn’t up the ante in the death overs. Junaid was exceptional as he returned with the figures of 4/19 in nine overs to bowl out the opposition for 239 runs. But even that score was enough for Bangladesh as they bowled and fielded superbly.

Pakistan team was at the receiving end at the social media as they failed to lock horns with India in the final and for the third time in this Asia Cup.
