The Asia Cup 2022 gets underway on August 27, with Sri Lanka facing Afghanistan in the curtain-raiser. However, all eyes will be on the blockbuster India-Pakistan clash at the Dubai International Stadium on the 28th. Both teams would be renewing their rivalry at the very same venue where the Men in Green had broken their World Cup jinx over India with an emphatic 10-wicket victory in the last year’s T20 World Cup.

Both teams will be heading into this clash with the unavailability of their respective pace spearheads- Jasprit Bumrah and Shaheen Afridi, who have been ruled out due to injuries. Meanwhile, the 15-member Indian squad that has been selected for the 15th edition of the continental tournament in the UAE is full of surprises as well as notable inclusions and exclusions. Nonetheless, there will be a few of the selected players who might not get a chance in the six-team competition. Without further ado, here’s a look at three of them.

1. Deepak Hooda

Deepak Hooda has been India’s lucky charm ever since he made his international debut in February this year. The Indian team has gone on to register 17 successive victories in limited-overs which Hooda has played ever since his debut. More importantly, the middle-order batter has also been performing consistently for the Men in Blue in the last couple of months.

However, the Rohtak cricketer might not feature in India’s playing XI for the upcoming Asia Cup as the middle-order for the competition is already overcrowded with the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, etc. leaving less or no room for Hooda.

Therefore, the bowling all-rounder might be warming the bench in Asia Cup 2022.
